GIN is set to overtake vodka to become the biggest spirit category in the UK on-trade next year, according to William Grant & Sons’ Trending 2020 Report.
The claim, contained in the ninth edition of the drinks firm’s market report, found gin to be worth £2 billion in the UK on and off-trades.
In Scotland, gin sales are said to have risen 63% in value terms, outperforming the UK as a whole; while the value of malt whisky sold in Scotland is also said to have outpaced the UK.
And, premium spirits as a whole saw an 11% uplift in the Scottish on-trade.
Ifan Jenkins, marketing director at William Grant & Sons, said the figures “indicate a strong drinks market in Scotland”.
