CRAFT distiller Pickering’s Gin might divide opinion this Christmas with a Brussels sprouts-flavoured gin.

Pickering’s distilled 10,000 sprouts – said to be enough for 2000 Christmas dinners – at Summerhall Distillery.

The flavour is part of a new limited edition six-strong gin-filled Christmas bauble range.
The resulting spirit is said to offer an “unmistakably ‘sprouty’ aroma with a surprisingly sweet, slightly nutty taste, with a green herbaceous and peppery twang”.

It was an interesting challenge trying to balance the unmistakable flavour of Brussels sprouts.

Marcus Pickering, co-founder and head of export, said that having first launched the firm’s gin-filled baubles in 2016, the company “really wanted to spice things up and take the original and best gin bauble to the next level” this year.

“We are thrilled to finally be able to share our unique festive flavoured gin baubles,” he added.

Commenting on the creation of the Brussels sprout-flavoured gin, Matt Gammell, head distiller and co-founder, said: “It was an interesting challenge trying to balance the unmistakable flavour of Brussels sprouts to get the taste just right – and the distillery had a very distinct aroma while the gin was being distilled!

“However, we love the end result and it is the ideal tipple for friends and family to share together this Christmas.”

He added that the distiller’s festive gin-filled baubles have traditionally been “hugely popular and sold very quickly – we expect gin fans to be out in force to snap up this year’s baubles”.

Proceeds from the sale of every bauble of Pickering’s Brussels sprout gin will go to Contact the Elderly’s Community Christmas campaign; the money raised will fund Christmas lunches for those who would otherwise spend it alone.

This year’s gin bauble range also includes Christmas Clementine, Festive Cranberry, Spiced Pear and Cinnamon, Figgy Pudding, and Plum and Ginger.
