AN Argyll chef has been named the best in the UK in the latest edition of The Good Food Guide.

Pam Brunton of Inver restaurant in Strachur, was named Chef of the Year by the consumer publication.

The highest-ranked Scottish restaurant was Restaurant Andrew Fairlie at Gleneagles (14th place overall in the UK), with The Peat Inn in Fife the second-highest (23rd), and The Kitchin in Edinburgh third (25th overall).

Meanwhile Glasgow restaurant, Number 16, was named Best Local Restaurant for Scotland.
