THE drink of the blue agave’s growing popularity in the on-trade is evidenced in this year’s CGA listings with sales of tequila soaring by over 35% to £17.6 million.
Traditionally imbibed as a shot, the Mexican spirit is increasingly being used in a range of different cocktails – a move that is being encouraged by a number of producers, including the team behind this year’s number two brand on CGA’s listing, Patrón, through its Patrón Perfectionists cocktail competition.
Long-term favourite Jose Cuervo keeps its number one spot, with Olmeca, Tapatio and Gran Centenario completing the top five.
