The tours explore gin’s history

THE illicit gin trade of 18th century Edinburgh and the plague doctors who used botanicals to tackle disease are to be celebrated in new late night gin tasting tours beneath the Royal Mile.

The team behind visitor attraction Real Mary King’s Close is teaming up with Edinburgh gin maker The Old Curiosity Distillery to offer the tours, which will run throughout August and September. Each tour will take 1.5 hours and cost £35 per person.

Francesca Martin, Old Curiosity’s events and marketing manager, said: “We can’t wait to share the interesting history of gin and showcase our creations in a unique setting.”
