THE first cask has been filled at Isle of Arran Distillers’ new Lagg Distillery, marking the official beginning of its whisky production.
Cask Number One, a sherry butt said to have been exclusively reserved for members of the Lagg Cask Society, has been filled with a heavily-peated spirit, at a filling strength of 63.5%; it is expected to mature into a “rich, earthy, smoky” Lagg single malt, which “will be very different in character to what the distillers currently produce at their original distillery in Lochranza”.
With production now underway, the new distillery and visitor centre is nearing completion – and is due to open early summer.
