WHISKY enthusiasts keen to further their knowledge of the category can now undertake a Diploma in the Art of Tasting Whisky via the Edinburgh Whisky Academy.
The one-day SQA-accredited course gives whisky aficionados the chance to learn more about various aspects of the spirit, including flavour development and the influence of oak in the whisky-making process.
It also looks at the human olfactory system and teaches students about the role of wood in the development of whisky flavour, including the different reactions that take place during maturation.
The academy has also launched an online Introduction to Whisky Certificate aimed at industry professionals and hospitality staff.
Founded by managing director Kirsty McKerrow, who worked as the Swedish brand ambassador for Glenmorangie and Ardbeg, the Edinburgh Whisky Academy has provided training for various Scottish distillers, including Ian Macleod Distillers and Chivas Brothers.
