Island gin to scale new heights

Mermaid Gin founders Xavier Baker and Conrad Gauntlett

A YEAR-long research project and investment programme has informed a major makeover for The Isle of Wight Distillery’s Mermaid Gin.

Created by friends Xavier Baker and Conrad Gauntlett, the gin’s new look is expected to boost both distribution and sales following funding from a private external investor.

The premium gin’s refreshed packaging sees sculpted scales, which reflect and refract light, swirl downwards on the bottle to resemble the tail of the mythical sea creature. The bottle is also plastic-free and made from entirely recyclable materials.

The gin, which has been distilled since 2014, is made with ten ethically-sourced botanicals, including juniper berries, coriander seeds and Boadicea hops.

Baker said: “There’s now real style to our substance – this stunning bottle is the perfect showcase for what is a top quality gin.”
