TACKLING the stigma around requesting a ‘doggy bag’ and reducing food waste is the aim of a new Zero Waste Scotland (ZWS) campaign.
Fronted by Scottish comedian Iain Stirling – who asks Scots if they are ‘good to go’ – the campaign aims to encourage restaurants to offer customers doggy bags.
Every year £200 million worth of food is said to go to waste in Scotland’s hospitality sector; and around 34% of this is said to be ‘plate waste’, which could be taken home.
Restaurants which join the scheme will receive a free starter pack containing 300 boxes, bags and communication materials.
