Breathing new life into Oban business

The unit will become Gelatoburger.A VETERAN restaurant operator is to breathe new life into a unit in Oban after acquiring the lease.

Paul Sloan, who owns a number of restaurants in Oban and Glasgow, has taken on the former Kitchen Garden site on George Street, directly opposite Oban harbour.

The unit, which has traded as a delicatessen café for 25 years, will reopen as Gelatoburger, a combination of an Italian ‘gelateria’ and 100-seat burger bar, in time for Easter.

Josh Hill, business agent at property firm Christie & Co, who handled the sale, said: “After running a bespoke marketing process for the landlord, we identified a high number of potential new tenants, including national brands and single unit operators, early on.

“After reviewing all of our options, we were delighted to strike a deal with the new tenant who has a vast amount of experience in the casual dining sector.”

Sloan said he was “very excited” about the site.

The leasehold of Kitchen Garden was sold for an undisclosed sum.
