A NEW rum distillery which is said to be the first in Glasgow in over 300 years opened in the city this month.

Wester Spirit Distillery, producer of small-batch spiced rum Wester Spirit Co, has set up shop in Partick and is said to be utilising the latest technology; it uses stainless steel in place of copper stills and has fully programmable technology to increase the efficiency of the distilling process.

And the distillery will allow the firm to increase its production limit from 250 bottles per month to 6000.

It will also host pop-up restaurants and secret gigs, as well as tours around the distillery which will give guests the chance to create their own rum cocktails.
