SOFT drinks producer Fever-Tree has launched a new limited edition, low-calorie cucumber flavoured tonic, which it claims epitomises the taste of British summertime.

Created using a natural cucumber essence, which is said to provide a balance against the “gentle bitterness” of the quinine in the tonic water, the Refreshingly Light Cucumber Tonic is said to pair well with “fresh and floral” gins, as well as premium vodkas.

Available in 500ml bottle format, the new variant has already been served at sporting events this summer, including the Fever-Tree Championships at Queen’s Club in London.

Temporarily bolstering Fever-Tree’s low-calorie range to 14, the new addition follows a larger expansion of the Refreshingly Light range earlier this year.

It also represents the tonic producer’s latest limited seasonal release, following on from Clementine & Cinnamon Tonic Water, which, launched over the Christmas period last year, became the brand’s third most popular variant throughout December 2017, according to company figures.

Rose Black, Fever-Tree innovation director, said cucumber “is a quintessentially English flavour which has a strong association with summer drinking”.

“By using pure cucumber essence distilled directly from the cucumber, we have created a great-tasting, refreshing tonic that is the perfect drink to be enjoyed during the summer months,” she said.
