Funding boost for capital distillery

Holyrood Distillery

CONSTRUCTION of the first single malt whisky distillery in Edinburgh for 90 years has moved a step closer following a successful funding drive.

The £5.8 million generated, which comprises funds from 60 private investors and £1.5 million from Scottish Investment Bank, will be used to renovate the 180 year old Engine Shed building and site on St Leonard’s Lane, purchase and install equipment and provide working capital to cover start-up costs.

Construction of Holyrood Distillery – a joint venture between former Macallan master distiller David Robertson and Rob and Kelly Carpenter, founders of the Canadian branch of the Scotch Malt Whisky Society, will begin next month.
