Local operators take the reins

Plans underway for new bar and bistro in Clarkston

THE operators behind Loks Bar & Kitchen in Newlands on Glasgow’s south side have purchased a new unit in nearby Clarkston – and they have big plans for the site.

Located on Helena Place at the busy Clarkston Toll thoroughfare, the unit previously housed a Beanscene café, which closed in 2014.

Since then, selling agent DM Hall said it has “seen several incarnations”, most recent of which was café The Stables.

There was significant interest due to the dearth of available venues within the suburb.

Now the 3150 sq ft licensed premises is set to reopen as a bar-bistro.

The new owners are said to have applied for planning permission to undertake a major refurbishment of the property; plans include the creation of a new bar on the ground floor with a bistro upstairs.

Subject to planning approval, the new owners expect to open their new venue this summer.

Alister Gibson of DM Hall, who handled the sale of the business, said: “There was a significant degree of interest in this property, not least because of the relative dearth of available restaurant and bar premises in what is regarded as an affluent suburb.”

Offers in excess of £300,000 were sought for the property; the final sale price, however, was not disclosed.
