HIGHLAND distiller Tomatin has launched the third expression in its Five Virtues series.

Earth is the latest of the limited edition single malts designed to celebrate the natural elements involved in the distiller’s whisky production – Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water – with a release to mark each.

The Earth expression is unique within the Five Virtues series because of its peaty profile.

Described as having a “distinct character” due to being distilled with peat-dried malted barley, Earth is said to have “richly intense and, unusually for Tomatin, peaty flavours” with a mix of “vanilla, burning heather and black fruit aromas with sweet, light smoke on the palate”.

Distillery manager, Graham Eunson, said: “The Earth expression is unique within the Five Virtues series – and indeed our entire range of single malts – because of its peaty profile.

“We only distil with peated barley for two weeks of every year and this spirit is never usually released under the Tomatin brand name.”

Jennifer Masson, Tomatin Distillery marketing manager, said the release of Earth has been highly anticipated following the launch of the first two expressions earlier this year.

“The Wood and Fire expressions have been extremely well-received in all of our international markets, with buyers eager to add Earth to their collection,” she said.

The Metal and Water expressions will be released early next year.
