SKY has pledged to “continue to take legal action” against licensees found to be screening Sky Sports without a valid subscription.
The company said it is “committed to visiting thousands of pubs this season”, with 700
visits being made each week of the football season.
Sky Business deputy managing director, Alison Dolan, said: “The issue of illegal Sky use is very close to the hearts of pubs who pay for legitimate subscriptions because they are being left short-changed by licensees who broadcast Sky content illegally.
“It creates an uneven playing field for their businesses.”
The news comes after a Glasgow licensee was prosecuted under the Copyright Designs and Patents Act for screening Sky Sports in his pub without a valid subscription.
The licensee, from Harvey’s Bar on Maryhill Road, received a criminal conviction and was ordered to pay £4000 in compensation.
