OPERATORS should tackle Christmas and New Year staffing needs now to avoid a “shortfall in manpower”.
That’s the warning from recruitment firm Jobco-op, which said many leave it too late to recruit additional staff for the busy festive period.
Kate Trinder, joint managing director of the firm, which provides temporary restaurant and bar staff to the industry, said the problem of staff shortages is often compounded by established staff moving on at this time of year.
“These are fairly busy months for recruitment and especially in a sector like hospitality with a high level of in-built staff turnover, it could be that you lose a number of people,” she said.
“This means that you could potentially be facing a shortfall in manpower even before you begin planning for Christmas, creating a kind of double-whammy effect.”
