• Bibendum finds growth in cocktails.

DRINKS supplier Bibendum has predicted strong sales for spirits this Christmas, driven by the continued popularity of cocktails.

Revealing figures for the 12 weeks to October, Bibendum reported the number of on-trade outlets selling cocktails had increased by 33% on last year, with 87% of consumers saying they would choose a cocktail on a night out.
Bibendum highlighted an uplift in spirits sales with a “heavy leaning” towards the gin and rum categories.
The firm said its gin sales were up 14% by volume and 9% by value for the period while rum sales grew 5% by volume and 7% by value.
Jamie Avenell, spirits buyer for Bibendum, said consumer interest in premium ingredients “has never been higher”.
“Consumers are willing to pay a bit extra for better quality and a more pleasurable experience,” said Avenell.
