BROADCAST giant Sky is set to introduce a new channel dedicated to European football in time for the 2014/15 season.
Launching on August 12, Sky Sports 5 will be available to commercial customers as part of their existing subscription.
The new channel will consolidate all of Sky’s European football, screening more than 600 live European football matches next season.
Sky Sports 5 will bring action from the UEFA Euro 2016 qualifiers, UEFA Champions League, the Spanish La Liga and Copa del Rey plus a host of other European football including Holland’s top division Eredevisie.
Under Sky’s four-year deal with Eredevisie, the broadcaster will show live matches each week from the league for the first time, giving Scottish fans the chance to follow the domestic campaigns of top Dutch teams including Ajax, PSV Eindhoven and Feyenoord.
David Rey, managing director of Sky Business, said the new channel “takes our unrivalled live football coverage to the next level, offering more European football than ever before”.
“We are also delighted to bring our customers action from Holland’s top league and by scheduling all of our European football content on one channel, pubs and clubs will find it easier than ever to show all this great content to draw in fans,” said Rey.
Sky Sports also has the rights to over 500 matches from the UK including coverage of the SPFL, Barclays Premier League and Sky Bet Football League.
