GLEN Garioch distillery has released its first ever expression to be fully matured in French Bordeaux wine casks.
The Glen Garioch Wine Cask Matured was distilled in 1998 and matured in casks from Saint-Julien in Bordeaux for 15 years.
The wine cask maturation process is said to produce a multi-layered flavour profile “full of fruit, sweetness and spice”.
A limited run of 450 cases is said to have been released globally, with a bottle of the 48% ABV whisky expected to retail at around £100.
Rachel Barrie, master blender at Glen Garioch parent company Morrison Bowmore, said the limited edition release “has married the sweetness of Bordeaux with the wholesome maltiness of the Garioch spirit”.
Said to have been founded in 1797, Glen Garioch was relaunched in October 2010 with a range of two single malts.
