A NEW sparkling wine-based cocktail that’s said to offer a ‘taste of the Mediterranean’ has arrived on Scottish shores in time for summer.

Ibiza Ice is the brainchild of Richard Horwell, who told SLTN he reckoned there was potential for a ready to drink product with a lower alcohol content and fewer calories than wine.
There are two variants of the 5.5% ABV cocktail, inspired by the Balearic island: White Isle – a mix of lychee, lime and melon with sparkling wine, which has 44.4 calories per 100ml; and Sunset – a blend of pomegranate and sparkling wine with 42.2 calories per 100ml.
The wine-based cocktail, which is available to the Scottish trade from wholesaler Filshill, is packaged in 330ml aluminium ring-pull bottles.
Horwell told SLTN he is confident Ibiza Ice will go down a storm with operators and consumers.
“The idea was to create a wine-based cocktail with a lower alcohol content and fewer calories than wine,” he said.
“Ibiza Ice is made with natural ingredients and is a lighter alternative to wine.
“The aluminium bottles give it a point of difference and are safe to serve outdoors and in late night venues where glass is not allowed. We’re also aiming to do a lot at the festivals this summer and we’ve got big plans for the brand in Ibiza at places like Ibiza Rocks and Cafe del Mar.”
