VISITSCOTLAND has unveiled a month-long schedule of whisky events as part of this year’s Homecoming Scotland celebrations.

Whisky Month, in May, will comprise a number of festivals and events throughout Scotland, including the Spirit of Speyside Festival (May 1-5); the Feis Isle festival on Islay (May 24-June 1); Whisky Stramash in Edinburgh (May 24-25); Spirit of Stirling (May 9-10); and the Glasgow Whisky Festival (May 17).
Aside from dedicated festivals, Whisky Month will also include events such as Create:Eat:Whisky, a tour of the whisky-making process taking place in a former milk factory in Leith between May 14 and 20; Marrying Malts and Molecules, an exploration of food and whisky pairing in Glasgow on May 24; and a number of ‘distillery days’ at Edinburgh’s Scotch Whisky Experience.
Speaking at the launch of Whisky Month in Glasgow Barbara Clark, head of communications at VisitScotland, said whisky has become an important aspect in the wider marketing of Scotland.
“People want to come to Scotland because of whisky, and we can use that to sell the country and sell the countryside,” said Clark.
