A NEW mobile phone and tablet application that aims to help chefs calculate costs more effectively has been launched.
Buying specialist Lynx Purchasing said it created The GP Calculator App to allow chefs to work out menu prices and help them hit gross profit (GP) targets.
By keying in the cost of ingredients and the percentage GP desired, chefs can find the correct price to charge on the menu; the app can also ‘reverse engineer’ a dish by working out the GP when the chef keys in the menu price and food costs.
“Achieving the right GP is fundamental to the success of any catering business,” said Lynx managing director John Pinder.
“Many chefs are now also expected to be kitchen managers and purchasing experts, but a passion for food doesn’t always go hand-in-hand with the ability to do rapid calculations in a busy kitchen.”
