A 19 year old whisky fully matured in virgin American white oak casks is the latest release from Glenmorangie’s Private Edition range, comprising Sonnalta PX, Finealta and Artein.
Ealanta, which is Gaelic for ‘skilled and ingenious’, is available from this month and bottled at 46% ABV.
Distilling and whisky creation director Dr Bill Lumsden, who travels the world seeking the best oak casks in which to mature the whisky, said the Ealanta “experiment” dated back to the early 1990s.
“Having discovered these casks and sampled them, I realised then what a jewel we had and immediately had the casks secreted in a safe place,” he said.
The dram is said to embody a “soft toffee and butterscotch aroma, then vanilla and a hint of stewed fruits”.
