Give youth a chance, says Academy

THE Academy of Food & Wine Service (AFWS) has pledged its support for vocational qualifications for 16 year olds.

The professional body that represents front-of-house staff in hospitality argues the value of practical subjects in education should not be underestimated.
AFWS executive director Sophie Roberts-Brown said the sector “desperately” needs new recruits with practical and communication skills.
“The education system must continue to offer alternatives to young people who might not suit traditional academic subjects,” she added.
