A FORMER council building in Ayr is to be transformed into a luxury hotel and spa.

John and Senga Campbell, who own the Dumfries Arms and Railway hotels in Ayrshire, plan to transform 18th century Belleisle House, which is set in acres of parkland adjacent to a golf course, into a 70-bedroom hotel.
To be called the Belleisle Mansion Hotel & Spa, the new hotel will have a 20-metre indoor swimming pool and 400-capacity ballroom. The first phase of the development, which will see 15 suites, two restaurants, a bar, lounge and spa created in the original main building, is expected to be complete by summer 2014.
“This is a fantastic opportunity and a landmark moment – not just for us as business owners, but for Ayr and Ayrshire as a whole,” said John.
