Beers do battle for supermarket listings

FOUR Scottish beers are set to battle it out to win a listing with supermarket giant Sainsbury’s.

Double Espresso beer from VC2 Brands’ Traditional Scottish Ales, Prodigal Sun from Alloa-based Williams Brothers Brewing Company, Cairngorm Brewery’s White Lady and Wild Hop Gold from Harviestoun Brewery in Alva were named Scottish regional winners in Sainsbury’s annual Great British Beer Hunt.
Four winning beers were also selected from a further four regions down south.
The winning brews will go on sale in the seasonal aisle in Sainsbury’s stores for three weeks from September 12, with the two best-performing beers from each region going into the grand final on October 5.
Two overall winners will then be chosen, with each beer receiving a guaranteed minimum six-month listing in stores across the UK from November.
“This has been yet another outstanding year in terms of the fantastic quality of British beer showcased,” said Sainsbury’s beer buyer Nicky Millington.
