THE Wine and Spirit Trade Association has appointed a new chief executive.

Miles Beale, who is currently deputy director for EU and international policy at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA), will take up his new role with the trade group in June. WSTA communications director Gavin Partington will continue as interim chief executive until then.
Beale will replace former chief executive Jeremy Beadles, who left earlier this year after six years in the role to join Heineken UK as corporate relations director.
WSTA chairman Tim How said Beale has experience of “significant negotiations” at national and European level, and has worked closely with senior ministers in successive governments.
“He brings with him extensive experience across government, which will help the industry navigate a broad range of policy issues impacting the sector at both UK and EU level,” he said.
