G&M toasts success at awards

GORDON & MacPhail, the Elgin-based wine and spirits merchant, was this month named the UK’s best drinks wholesaler.

The company was awarded the title at the Drinks Retailing Awards in London, in recognition of its product range and customer service as well as its continual investment in staff training and technology.
“Since 1895, we have placed our customers and their requirements at the heart of our business,” said David Urquhart, joint managing director at Gordon & MacPhail.
“We value our working relationships and are eager to listen to our customers, working with them to meet their objectives.
“Along with the ongoing support from our suppliers and customers, winning this award is testament to the commitment and skills of the Gordon & MacPhail team and their drive to continually exceed customer expectations.”
Gordon & MacPhail stocks a range of beers, ciders, wines and spirits and has a particular specialism in malt whisky.
In addition to owning the Benromach distillery in Speyside, the company is also a major independent bottler, purchasing casks from a number of other Scottish distilleries and then bottling and releasing the whisky under its own brand. The company has bottled more than 300 expressions, which are exported all over the world.
Gordon & MacPhail employs 140 staff in its Elgin base, including a 20-strong sales team that covers the UK. The company also continues to operate the original Gordon & MacPhail shop, first opened in 1895, which sells a range of locally-made products as well as over 1,000 whiskies.
