Retailers hail high street revival plans

A REVIEW of town planning, business rates and red tape could help Scots retailers flourish.
That’s the message from the Scottish Grocers’ Federation, which welcomed a report by retail expert Mary Portas on reviving high streets. Portas, who presents TV show Mary Queen of Shops, wants to see management teams put in place to run high streets, along with improved parking and business rates concessions for new local companies.
SGF chief John Drummond said there are several points in the review that resonate with Scottish retailers.
“We welcome the Scottish Government’s announcement of a national review of town centres and would suggest that the Portas review is a good place to start,” he said.
