MARINAS and piers on the west coast of Scotland are to get a multi-million pound upgrade as part of a drive to position the area as one of Europe’s top marine destinations.
The MalinWaters initiative is part of Sail West – a £6.3 million collaboration of more than 20 partners from the west of Scotland, Northern Ireland and Ireland.
Through the Sail West programme, Scottish sailing will benefit from more than £2m of European funding and a further £800,000 from local authorities and organisations.
Tourism minister Fergus Ewing said visitors to Scotland who take part in sailing or yachting contribute £21m a year to the Scottish economy.
