PUSSER’S, the dark rum once served to the British Navy, has reinforced its royal credentials this year
At the beginning of the year the company’s president, Charles Tobias, was awarded an MBE for services to the Royal Navy and to the community of the British Virgin Islands, where he lives. And last month the brand introduced a new cocktail specially designed for the royal wedding.
Originally Pusser’s was distributed by the Royal Navy to its sailors, with each sailor receiving a daily ration (or ‘tot’). The traditional was ended in 1970 but Tobias, a sailor himself, obtained the rights and blending information from the admiralty and, in 1980, released the rum to the general public.
