EDINBURGH-based EPOS firm Zonal Retail Data Systems has marked the company’s 35th year by relocating to new £1 million offices.

The move, from premises in Forth Street, means 200 of its 330 employees will be based at new offices in the city’s Tanfield area.
The company was founded by hotelier Ralph McLean, who developed an EPOS till system to monitor sales, stock and wastage at the family’s Allan Ramsay Hotel, near Edinburgh.
Today, the firm claims to have hospitality management solutions in more than 6000 businesses and a turnover of £52.2 million.
Stuart McLean, Zonal’s chief executive and son of late founder Ralph, said the move to Tanfield marks the next step in the firm’s journey.
“At Zonal, our focus has always been on bringing cutting edge technologies to our customers in a cost effective, easy to support and fully integrated way,” he said. “Delivering excellent customer service is also key to Zonal’s ethos and through this we have secured many customers as ‘partners for life’.
“Thanks to the emergence of mobile technology, we have deployed almost 10,000 iPod Touches as integrated hand-held ordering devices last year.
“Through real-time tracking of a guest’s visit from the moment of ordering to final payment, this supports our customers’ drive to deliver excellent guest service.”
