Burgers boss the market

BURGER joints were the big winners of 2015, according to online booking firm Bookatable, with outlets offering the American staple said to have experienced a boom in bookings last year.

Bookatable’s lastest Quarterly Dining Trends report, based on dining and booking data gathered form the 12 months to November 2015, found that reservations for burger outlets saw the biggest increase of all food categories for the year.
Other cuisines in the ascendency included Scandinavian, barbecue and South East Asian as well as Welsh and Greek food.
The firm’s dining report also found that bookings for both breakfast and lunch improved in 2015.
Bookatable reported that weekday lunch bookings have increased 25% across the UK over the last four years and said these findings support “a growing trend for professionals choosing to conduct business meetings over lunch in restaurants”.
Joe Steele, chief executive of Bookatable, said that 2015 was “undoubtedly” the year of burgers.
“It is really interesting to see the trends that come to light when looking back over the last 12 months of British dining,” said Steele.
“Scandinavian food continues to grow in popularity with Brits, while we’ve seen a decline in bookings for Nepalese, contemporary Italian and Pakistani food, perhaps due to people becoming even more adventurous with their dining – something Bookatable encourages.”
