Benromach bolsters single malt range

ELGIN-based whisky merchant Gordon & MacPhail has added three new expressions to its Benromach range of single malts as the brand celebrates successful links with the arts.

The new expressions – Wood Finish Hermitage, Cask Strength and 30 year old – each offer a different strength of spirit.
Wood Finish Hermitage (ABV 45%) is matured in sherry and bourbon casks before being transferred to oak wine casks for 22 months; Cask Strength contains hints of spice and is bottled at 59.9% ABV; and the 43% ABV 30 year old whisky is described as smooth and creamy, with warming hints of sherry and spices.
David Urquhart, joint managing director of distillery owner Gordon & MacPhail, said the newly-bolstered portfolio “demonstrates the skill of our master distillers in maturing and distilling”.
“While different in taste, they all have that recognisable Benromach quality, which is achieved by using the finest malted barley, pure spring water from the Romach Hills and the highest quality casks,” he said.
The Wood Finish Hermitage has a recommended retail price of £31.25, the Cask Strength an RRP of £40.50 and the 30 Years Old £149.99 a bottle.
Meanwhile, the company has hailed its first arts sponsorship as an “unprecedented” success.
Benromach had teamed up with the National Theatre of Scotland to sponsor a six-week production of The Strange Undoing of Prudencia Hart.
The show opened at Oran Mor in Glasgow in July before moving to Ghillie Dhu in Edinburgh last month, where it ran until last week. Samples of several Benromach whiskies were available at both venues during the show.
