one of the six special editions

THE owner of the Bunnahabhain, Deanston and Tobermory distilleries is flexing its malt muscles with the launch of six limited edition whiskies from across its single malt portfolio.

The new expressions include Bunnahabhain Palo Cortado Cask Finish and Bunnahabhain 2008 Mòine Bordeaux Red Wine Cask Matured, from the Bunnahabhain distillery on Islay; Deanston 2008 Brandy Cask Finish from Deanston, in Doune, Perthshire; as well as Tobermory 2005 (12 year old), Fino Cask Finish, Ledaig 1998 (19 year old) Oloroso Sherry Cask Finish and Ledaig 1998 (19 year old) PX Cask Finish, from the Tobermory distillery on Mull.

The whiskies will be unveiled at the company’s inaugural malt whisky showcase in London at TT Liquor in Shoreditch on September 12, where lead blender Kirstie McCallum and Bunnahabhain distillery manager, Andrew Brown, will host a nosing and tasting session of each release.

Commenting on the soon-to-be-released expressions, Derek Scott, brand director for malt whisky at Distell, said: “This has been a revolutionary year for our malt portfolio. We’re lucky to have three very different distilleries and this showcase will allow us to share the stories of each and highlight how these are reflected in the bold new releases.

“Kirstie, our lead blender, has been working with each distillery to create these unique whiskies.

“Using the flavour profile each brand is known for as the guide to selecting the finishing casks, we’ve been able to create six limited release whiskies that are not just of interest for their points of difference, but are also fantastic drams that remain true to the whisky’s style.”

The whiskies range in price from £60 a bottle (for Deanston 2008 Brandy Cask Finish) to £275 (Bunnahabhain Palo Cortado Cask Finish).
