Views sought on DRS

ZERO Waste Scotland is seeking views on how a deposit return scheme (DRS) could work for Scotland.

Tasked by the Scottish Government with designing options for the DRS, it has prepared four examples of how the system could work.

The scheme is expected to involve up to 20p being added to the price of each drinks container, which would then be given back to the consumer when they return the empty container. However, it remains unclear how the system would work in the on-trade – for instance, whether the extra charge would lie with operators or customers – provoking concerns about additional costs for the trade.

The consultation runs until September 25.
