Open the door to a new Scottish gin

Red Door Gin

FAMILY-owned drinks firm, Gordon & MacPhail, expanded into gin production this week with the launch of new brand, Red Door.

The London Dry-style gin (45% ABV), which is distilled at the company’s Benromach distillery in Forres, was released on Monday (July 2) and is said to be inspired by Scotland’s mountains, forests and coastal fringes. The spirit is described as having notes of juniper and bitter orange, with sea buckthorn, heather and rowanberries.

“We’ve been working hard behind the red door to create a gin with a distinctive palate, using the finest botanicals,” said sales director, David King.

“We’re really excited for people to try Red Door gin as we embark on this new chapter for Benromach distillery.

“From the classic Red Door G&T to a delicious Negroni or smooth Martini, we are confident that we have created a gin that will prove popular with gin lovers everywhere.”

As well as producing the spirit itself, the Benromach distillery also hosts the Red Door visitor experience, which explains the production process and suggested serves for the gin.

Red Door – which takes its name from Benromach’s distinctive red doors – is priced at £30 a bottle.

The launch comes as Gordon & MacPhail introduces a new range of single malt whiskies as part of a wider move to “strengthen and streamline” its portfolio.

Discovery is grouped and colour-coded under three flavour profiles – Smokey, Sherry, and Bourbon – and has been designed to help whisky consumers better explore Gordon & MacPhail’s portfolio; each bottle within the new range features a brief tasting note and either a vintage or age statement.

The first expressions to be released within the Discovery range comprise spirit originally from Balblair, Tormore, Miltonduff and Caol Ila distilleries, which have then been matured in Gordon & MacPhail’s own hand-selected casks.
