Pilot scheme encourages more people to consider careers in sector
TWO Edinburgh hotels have thrown their weight behind a pilot scheme designed to encourage more people to consider careers in hospitality.
Radisson Blu Edinburgh and the Radisson Collection Hotel, on Edinburgh’s Royal Mile, joined forces with Glasgow-based hospitality training provider Hub International for the six-week initiative, which gave 15 people between the ages of 16 and 39 a taste of the industry.
Candidates were given insight, practical skills and certification in key hotel functions, including food and beverage, housekeeping and kitchen duties. The group also received mentoring from senior Radisson Blu Edinburgh staff and external hospitality professionals, including flair bartender David Monaghan and butler Simeon Rosset, who delivered an Art of Service masterclass.
Those who successfully complete the programme are expected to move in to full-time employment in the hotels and undertake further hospitality training through the Modern Apprenticeship programme, with the opportunity to complete Scottish Vocational Qualifications (SVQs).

“This pilot partnership programme with Hub International reflects a step-change in our approach to ensuring Radisson Blu Edinburgh and Radisson Collection Hotel, Royal Mile Edinburgh, can consistently develop the skills of individuals throughout Edinburgh and beyond who are interested in a hospitality career. I am pleased how this initial pilot has progressed and we would hope to see these candidates progress to full-time employment with Radisson Hotel Group.”
