Dundee nightclub to close

THE UK’s biggest nightclub operator, The Deltic Group, is to shut its Dundee venue after more than a decade.

Liquid & Envy, on Dundee’s South Ward Road, will close its doors on March 28.

Liquid & Envy, on the city’s South Ward Road, will close its doors on March 28.

The Deltic Group, which is based in Milton Keynes and owns and operates an estate of nightclubs across Scotland and the rest of UK – including Atik in Edinburgh and Unique in Aberdeen – said in a statement that with the lease for the South Ward Road club up for renewal, the firm had to decide whether to renew it and invest “significant money” in the club or walk away.

The Deltic Group’s chief executive, Peter Marks, said: “After almost 20 years at the heart of Dundee’s late night scene, firstly with the Mardi Gras and for the last ten years Liquid & Envy, we have taken the difficult decision to close on Wednesday March 28.

“Our lease is coming to an end soon and we had to decide whether we should renew it and invest significant money in the club or walk away. Regrettably, we have decided on the latter, as we feel the night-time economy in the city is continuing to decline where other city centres are improving.”

Marks added that the firm “would like to take this opportunity to thank our wonderful team, who made the club such a great place to enjoy a night out”.

“Our main priority at the moment is to look after our team and we are doing all we can to offer support and find alternative employment,” he said.
