Brewer puts down roots in capital

The Potting Shed has a 75-cover restaurant

THE operators of St Andrews Brewing Company have made a move into Scotland’s capital after acquiring the lease of a bar and restaurant business in Edinburgh.

Phil Mackey and Tim Butler, directors of St Andrews Brewing Company, which currently operates a brewery and brewpub in St Andrews, have taken over The Potting Shed on Potterrow in the heart of Edinburgh’s university district.

Said to benefit from its ‘highly popular’ trading location, the outlet is set across ground floor and basement levels and comprises a 75-cover restaurant and commercial kitchen.

The acquisition, which was handled on an off-market basis via Cornerstone Business Agents, forms part of Mackey and Butler’s plans to expand their business; the pair are said to have plans to take on a second Edinburgh unit in the near future.
