THE firm behind Jack Daniel’s has introduced a new rye to the American whiskey’s core range.

Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Rye is being positioned at the ‘super premium’ end of the market and is said to combine the qualities of rye with the flavour profile of Jack Daniel’s, making it “spicy in flavour but smooth in character”, according to parent company Brown-Forman.

Ffion Fitzgerald, marketing manager for Jack Daniels UK, said: “Rye has become the rising star of the whiskey industry, with almost 20,000 9L cases sold in Europe in 2016 alone; nearly 8000 of these have been sold in the UK, making it the number one rye market in Europe.

“As experts in craft and quality whiskey, it made sense for Jack Daniel’s to be one of the first to market with our unique grain bill and distinctive flavour profile.”

Tennessee Rye has an ABV of 45% and is made of 70% rye, 18% corn and 12% malted barley.
