SCOTTISH tourism and hospitality businesses could be set for an increase in visitors during 2017 as part of what’s expected to be a “bumper year” for the UK as a whole, claims a new report from Barclays.
According to the Barclays Corporate Banking report, ‘Destination UK: driving growth in the UK hospitality and leisure sector’, the industry can expect to see higher numbers of domestic and overseas holidaymakers this year.
The bank’s research found that 63% of international tourists are more interested in UK holidays in 2017 compared to last year, with 30% of Brits also planning to holiday in the UK.
And Scotland was said to be the second most popular UK destination for international visitors, behind only London.
The biggest attractions for international holidaymakers were said to be UK landmarks, museums and natural landscapes.
The weaker pound was cited by 31% of foreign visitors as a reason to visit the UK, with 29% mentioning advertising campaigns and UK-set television shows as reasons they chose the UK.
