A FORMER newsagent in the Lanarkshire town of Uddingston has undergone a £200,000 renovation and reopened as a steak house.
Purchased by family-run company Uddingstons in July 2015, major works saw the former tobacconist store transformed into Cocktails & Steaks, which is located on Uddingston’s main street.
With space said to have been restricted, the kitchen area, located in the basement, was lowered to create a more practical working space.
Upstairs, as well as the installation of a new working bar, a new mezzanine floor was installed which caters for an additional 16 covers.
The project was spearheaded by Anthony Cowley of Uddingstons, who has a track record in developing venues as property development director for the Manorview Group. The business will be run day-to-day by Anthony’s sister, Renee Smith, and their mother Florence.
Commenting on the opening of Cocktails & Steaks, Cowley said: “This has been a long-running family project which has taken a while because we’re all so busy elsewhere.
“The initial idea came from my mum, who fancied getting herself a coffee shop, but the idea evolved and changed, and I’m delighted I’ve helped my sister and my family.”
Renee said the team is “very focused on serving good quality meat, food and drinks”.
“We’ve put a lot of thought into everything, from the décor, to the menus, the service and all the unique little touches,” she said.
