Distillery takes new Pride

HIGHLAND single malt distillery Glenmorangie has released its oldest whisky to date as part of the limited edition Pride series.

• Glenmorangie Pride 1974 is the distillery’s oldest ever dram.

The third limited edition in the series, Glenmorangie Pride 1974 is a 41 year old single malt which was laid down on October 30, 1974 in a combination of ex-bourbon casks and ex-Oloroso sherry butts.

Only 503 decanters of the 52% ABV limited edition dram have been released, with a retail price of £7200.
Glenmorangie director of distilling and whisky creation Dr Bill Lumsden said the 1974 edition is the “oldest and deepest Glenmorangie ever to be released”.

“It lends the whisky an enriched intensity, borne only of a slow, patient maturation,” said Lumsden.
“The result is an exquisite blend of deep, rich, salt and spicy aromas – aged balsamic vinegar, salted caramel toffee and oranges, leading to tastes of baked apples, toffee, oranges and brown sugar.”
