Pub business is a family affair

MORE than two thirds of licensees have worked with a family member in their pub, according to Belhaven owner Greene King.

The firm surveyed its licensees as part of an ongoing project to monitor ‘licensee satisfaction’. The poll revealed 68% of licensees had worked with family in their own pub, and 76% have family in the trade.
Martin Thompson, who, together with sister Marnie, leases the Wheatsheaf Inn in Symington near Ayr from Belhaven said they “work well as a partnership”.
“It works because we are a close-knit family who get on well and can make decisions easily,” he said.
