Games joy for JD

MANAGED pub giant JD Wetherspoon is the latest hospitality business to note the positive effect on trade brought by the Olympics.
Posting its first quarter trading update last week, for the 13 weeks to October 28, the firm said the Games and the Paralympics had helped it record a 7.1% increase in like-for-like sales; total sales were up 11.1%.
However, the firm did say in a statement that it does “not expect this level of sales growth to be sustained for the rest of the financial year”.
The quarter saw the firm open two new outlets, with a further eight under development. It aims to open a total of 25 new pubs in its current financial year.
