DIAGEO has underlined its commitment to brewing Guinness at its spiritual home in Dublin by announcing plans to invest E153 million at the St James’s Gate Brewery.

The investment, which follows a review of Diageo’s brewing operations in Ireland, will see the construction of a new brewhouse in a project the firm said would rejuvenate the historic site. All Guinness sold around Europe and the United States is brewed at the St James’s Gate site.
“The decision to consolidate to the St James’s Gate site is fundamental to deliver the competitiveness necessary for the long-term sustainability of our brewing in Ireland,” said David Gosnell, president of Diageo Global Supply.
“This is a significant investment and an expression of confidence by Diageo in our Irish operations.”
